THE BORDER ARTISTS AND KRWG-90.7 FM TO JOIN FORCES IN RAISING FUNDS FOR LOCAL NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO STATION THROUGH THE ARTS

It’s not the first time that the Border Artists and KRWG 90.7 FM have worked together to benefit community based quality radio, but it is the first time that they have been able to hold the benefit on the New Mexico State University (NMSU) campus.

On Saturday, November 17 from 5 – 7 p.m., the Nason House on the NMSU campus, next to the Chemistry Building and across from Kinko’s will host a gala fine arts opening where 40 percent of every sale will go to benefit KRWG-FM.

The exhibition is open to the public without charge.

Alexandra Nason Hall, whose mother gifted the building to the university, is co hosting the event. “Having the Border Artists here is particularly significant, “she said, “ since the building is dedicated to Latin American and Border studies.”

This year’s exhibition will have a bit of a twist to it, according to Border Artists’ spokesperson, Virginia Ness.

“While we’ll be having the formal event, with at least two pieces from 19 of our artists, we will also have mini openings on the lead up to the finale for Last Minute Saturday on December 15 from 10-2 p.m..”

“At that time, the artists will return with new pieces of work – many much smaller designed to fill last minute shopping needs, while still helping the station, “ Ness explained.

“But still, the exhibition is different in that it will not run on consecutive days – it will run from 1 – 4 p.m on Nov. 30 – Dec. 1; and also on Dec. 7-8 and Dec. 14.”

Artists will be present and will be happy to discuss their work.

Work represented by the Border Artists is diverse and includes ceramics, sculpture, painting in a variety of media and more. Many of the artists have shown both nationally and internationally and the group has been featured in New Mexico Magazine and involved in multiple exhibitions showcasing the quality and diversity of work in southern New Mexico.

The group also believes in showcasing other local artists through its annual Border Artists and Friends exhibition.

Participating artists include: Carolyn Bunch, Tauna Cole, Janice Cook, Sherry Doil-Carter and Tom Gerend. Also showing will be Winfrey Hearst, Suzanne Kane, Annetta Hoover and Cassandra Lockwood.

Rosemary McLoughlin, Diana Molina, Virginia Ness, Jeanne Rundell, Jo-An Smith and Dan Tapper will also exhibit their work, as well Scott Weaver, Bob Willis and Sandy Zane.
